2019 IPL Preview

January 22, 2019 By Mahendar Prajapati Leave a Comment

The Chennai Super Kings go into the 2019 IPL season as defending champions. They will start their defense of their championship against the Sun Risers Hyderabad in the opening game on March 29th in M.A Chidambaram Check Stadium, Tamil Nadu.

The final is due to take place in Wankhede Stadium Mumbai on the 12th of May 2019. Will the Super Kings make it all the way to the final again or will there be a new name etched on the trophy this season?

The Top 5

Last season’s runner ups Hyderabad Sunrisers are the current favorites at 9/2 to be holding aloft the 2019 IPL trophy. Chennai Super Kings are 5/1 to retain their title and the Mumbai Indians are also currently 5/1 to bring the trophy back to Mumbai for the third time in 5 years.

Kolkata Knight Riders won’t be far off the best of them, and you can get 11/2 on them winning for the first time since 2012, along with Royal Challengers Bangalore who are also 11/2.

  • Hyderabad Sunrisers                   9/2
  • Chennai Super Kings                   5/1

Major Signings

Kings XI Punjab spent big at this season auction, where they picked up Indian all-rounder Varun Chakravarthy for £940,000. They also secured another top player in England all-rounder Sam Curran who went for £800,000.

Rajasthan Royals also spent big at the auction when securing the services of Indian bowler Jaydeu Unadkat for £940,000.

World class South African batsman Colin Ingram went at auction for £715,000 where he will join up with the Delhi Capitals.

West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite will play for the Kings Raiders after going for £560,000 at this seasons auction.

After it was conformed that Colin Ingram would play for the Deli Capitals he posted a video on his Twitter page where he went onto say “The hype and buzz around cricket in India its fantastic and it’s going to be great to be part of it.”

“As for the Deli Capitals its look like a bunch of exciting players and I am looking forward to joining up with them and putting our best foot forward next season”

After been signed by Kings XI Punja, the shocked Uarun Chakravarthy went onto say “I’m very happy, to be playing in Ashan’s team is a blessing.”

“I thought the price was a bit too much, I didn’t expect it.”

“I was thinking they’ll take me for my base price.”

Some notable players that went unsold are, English batsman Alex Hayles, Australian bowler James Patterson and Sri Lankan all-rounder Anglo Matthews.

Verdict

This seasons IPL season looks as completive as ever, but I would be willing to put up Hyderabad Sunrisers as my pick. They were beat in the 2018 final by 8 wickets when the Chennai Super Kings came out on top.

With most of last season’s squad back this season you will be sure that Kane Williamson and all of the Hyderabad Sunrisers players will be out for revenge and go one better than last season and lift the coveted IPL trophy.
