How IPL Auction Works

IPL is one of the most successful tournaments played in India. IPL has a huge fan following from across the world. IPL auction plays important role in all over the IPL game. In today’s article, we are going to disclose how IPL auction work in India. In 2018, IPL auction was organized at Bengaluru. In 11th IPL auction 578 players are on the list of IPL auction. Team franchise already retained 18 players to be in the safe zone.

    Every team has a maximum amount of budget to bid on players.

  • Rajasthan Royals budget for bidding is Rs. 67.5 Crore.
  • Royal Challengers Bangalore has a budget for bidding is Rs 49 Crore.
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad has a budget of Rs 67.5 Crore.
  • Mumbai Indian budget for bidding is Rs 47 Crore.
  • Kolkata Knight riders budget for bidding is Rs 59 Crore.
  • Kings X| Punjab has a budget of Rs 67.5 Crore for bidding.
  • Delhi Daredevils budget for bidding is Rs 47 Crore.
  • Chennai Super Kings has a budget of Rs 47 Crore for bidding.

List of Auction

Players are divided into two categories of marquee players. They arrange them in proper order for bidding. Marquee player has to wait to take part in bidding until any team franchise bids highest amount of him and then he can join a particular team.

Richard Madley is an auctioneer of IPL auction 2018. Team manager, head coach, chairman, chief executive takes part in the auction. They announce the list of players to start the bidding process. They start bidding with marquee players for e.g.: Ravichandran Ashwin. If team representative is interested in particular player they can raise the paddle to buy him. The other team franchise has interest on same player then highest bid will get that particular player. If the team franchise didn’t raise paddle, then the player is unsold. Unsold players get a second chance if any team franchise is interested they can buy unsold players. A list of unsold player is prepared and their base price is half this time.
