How to Hold a Cricket Bat Correctly for Better Grip

In cricket, grip on bat enhances your batting technique. The wrong grip on bat can decrease the swing of the bat at a time of playing a shot. Each player has different types of grip in which they feel comfortable to hold a cricket bat. That’s an important factor you must feel comfortable while holding a bat. Once you find a perfect grip on bat automatically your batting skills will start improving.

In cricket, there are no rules on holding a cricket bat. You can hold it in your natural style. In international cricket many players like to play with “ORTHODOX GRIP” in other words it is also known as a “V” grip. One of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket “Sir Don Bradman” also likes to play with orthodox grip. “V” grip is an ideal grip for every batsman to hold a bat.

It’s very easy and simple to bat with orthodox grip. We will share four important tips on “How to hold a cricket bat correctly for better grip”. These tips can improve your batting and also power hitting.

1. Create “V” Shape on Bat –

When you hold a bat first lay it down on the ground and face the bat downward on the ground. Hold it with your hands and create “V” shape with a thumb on the bat. The right hand must be on top for right-hand batsmen. The left hand must be on top for left-hand batsmen. Both hands must be in the line-up of the bat.

When you create “V” shape with hands after that wrist down of your both hands and place them back of the bat handle. There must be a small gap between both hands. Makes sure your both must be in the line-up middle of the back of the bat.

2. Hold from Middle Handle –

A right technique to hold a bat handle is to hold it from Middle. Holding it from the middle will help you to generate more power in shots. Hitting long sixes can be easier while holding the middle handle.

If you hold a handle from top power-hitting can be easier but there will be lesser control while playing shots. Either if you hold a handle from the bottom it can create a control on the bat while playing a shot but it also decreases power in the shot.

3. Distance Between both Hands –

When you hold a cricket bat there must be a distance between both hands. In both hands, there must be a small amount of gap to play shot more freely. If you place hands closer to each other it will be stuck at a time of playing a shot. So, a closed hand can be harmful while playing shots or hitting sixes. Keep a specific gap between both hands.

These tips help you to play with cricket bat more effectively on ground. Practice daily using these tips day by day you will find improvement in cricket skills & techniques.

4. Relax Hand While Holding Bat –

If you think that holding cricket bat handle tight gives more power in shots, that’s wrong. Holding bat tightly is a wrong technique it doesn’t increase hitting power in bat. First of all, when you hold a bat hand must be relaxed and stay focus to face the next ball on the ground. Amount of pressure when you hold bat should be less.

Imagine when you going to hold baby cheeks that time you’ll apply very less amount of pressure on baby cheeks, that same pressure must be on the bat while holding it. It will help to bat with free hands and you can play shot in every corner of ground.
